Who might have keys
Previous owners, their relatives, cleaners, contractors, estate agents, lodgers, neighbours holding spares. You can't audit a key history you didn't create.
Replace vs rekey
On uPVC doors the cylinder is usually replaced — quick and inexpensive. On timber doors mortice locks can sometimes be rekeyed, but replacement is often comparable in cost.
Keyed-alike sets
If you have several external doors, ask for them to be keyed alike so one key opens them all.
