uPVC Door Handle Lifts But Won't Lock: What It Means

When the handle lifts but the key won't turn, the door is partly working — which actually tells us a lot.

What it means

The locking hooks are extending (that's what lifting the handle does) but something is preventing the cylinder from rotating the central cam that locks them in place.

Most likely causes

1) Cylinder cam slightly misaligned with the gearbox — common after a door drop. 2) Gearbox wear — the cam can't quite engage. 3) Cylinder itself failing internally.

What to try

Lift the door slightly while turning the key. If it works, hinge adjustment is needed. If not, call a locksmith to diagnose the gearbox or cylinder.
