When Should You Replace a Lock Instead of Repairing It?
Repair is usually cheaper — but not always the right answer. Here's the decision framework.
Repair if
Single internal part has worn, the lock body is still sound, parts are available, the lock still meets your insurance requirements.
Replace if
Lock body is damaged, parts are obsolete, the lock has been drilled or attacked, your insurance now needs a higher standard, or repair cost approaches replacement cost.
Cost rule of thumb
If repair is more than ~60% of replacement, replacement is usually better value over the lifetime of the lock.
